James Edward "Jim" Palmer, 82, of Oswego, Illinois, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2026, at his residence in Oswego, IL. Born on November 18, 1943, in Aurora, Illinois, Jim lived a life defined by dedication to his family, faith, and work.

Jim was the beloved husband of Bonnie Palmer for 57 wonderful years. Together they built a close-knit and loving family that includes their children: Jamie (Heidi) Palmer Jr., Beth (Bob) Jackson, and Becky Palmer. He was a proud grandfather to Makenzie (Dane) Jensen, Matt Jackson, James Palmer III, Ryan Jackson, and Justin Collier. His legacy continues through his cherished great-grandchildren Abby Saunders, Freyja Jensen, and Winton Jensen. Jim is also survived by his brothers Daniel Palmer, Richard Palmer, and John Palmer. He was predeceased by his parents Chester J. and Nela (née Sauer) Palmer as well as sisters-in-law Collette Palmer, Kathryn Palmer, and Marilyn Palmer and good friends Bob Skeels, and Glenn and JoAnn Beane-Best cardplayers ever.

Jim served his country with honor in the United States Army from 1962 to 1965. Following his military service, he embarked on a long and fulfilling career as a train engineer with Burlington-Northern Railroad. For many years he worked diligently on the early commuter trains between Aurora and Chicago, ensuring passengers reached their destinations safely and reliably. After retiring from the railroad industry, Jim continued to contribute to his community by working as a stocker at Target in Oswego.

A man of deep faith and unwavering values, Jim was a longtime member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Oswego. His commitment to his church reflected the steadfastness and humility that guided him throughout his life.

Jim's memory will be treasured by all who knew him. His devotion to family and community left an enduring mark on those fortunate enough to share in his life.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, July 10, 2026 from 4:00PM until 8:00PM at DUNN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME with CREMATORY, 1801 S. Douglas Road, Oswego, IL 60543. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 11, 2026 at 10:00 AM at St. Anne Catholic Church, 501 Boulder Hill Pass, Oswego, IL.
