James E. Nelson, age 65 of Montgomery, IL, peacefully passed away with his loving family on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at Journey Care in Barrington, IL. He was born January 31, 1953 in Chicago, IL, the son of Roy A. and Evelyn nee Ostrander Nelson. Jim was a member of the 1970 graduating class of Brother Rice High School and a 1975 graduate of the University of Illinois at Chicago. Prior to his retirement, he was Assistant Director of the Physics Division at Argonne National Laboratory in Lemont, IL. From 1985 to 1988 he helped build the Cosmic Ray Shield in Los Alamos, NM. In his spare time, he enjoyed riding his motorcycles, playing guitar and spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 14 years Darlene Nelson, son Andrew Nelson of the United Kingdom, step-children Nicole (Bart) Warren of Montgomery, IL, Eric (Kristin) Taft of Cortland, IL, grandchildren Rosie Nelson, Conor Warren, Brynley Warren, Clayton Taft, brother Thomas (Rosemary) Nelson of IN, niece Sarah (Jason) Swinger of Breckenridge, CO, Elizabeth Brunell of Downers Grove, IL nephew James (Sabrina) Nelson of Scottsdale, AZ, brother-in-law Daniel (Melinda) Brunell of Downers Grove, IL, David Brunell of New Durham, NH and best friend Robert Schmitt of Chicago Ridge, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at DUNN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME with CREMATORY, 1801 S.
