James "Jimmy" E Simmons, 49, passed away August 15, 2020 at his residence in Oswego, IL surrounded by his loving family. He was born February 4, 1971 in Streator, IL the son of Dianna L (Hallam) and the late James F Simmons (Wenona, IL). He graduated Mid-County High School 1989. He was an employee of the Illinois Department of Corrections from September 6, 1994 to present (Stateville CC, Logan CC, Parole and Sex Offender Unit). He had been a member of the tactical team and other specialty units. Many looked to him as a mentor, friend, and leader. On September 11, 1999 he married his wife Melissa in Springfield, IL and enjoyed over 20 years together raising their two children. He enjoyed golf, music, swimming, running, their dogs and family. He was preceded in death by his father James F Simmons. He is survived by his wife Melissa Simmons, two children son Gabriel and daughter Genevieve; mother Dianna L Simmons (Wenona, IL); brother Doug (Lisa) Simmons (Springfield, IL); five nephews Devon Simmons (Springfield, IL), Derek Simmons (Springfield, IL), Isaac Lewis (Lincoln, IL), Gavin Simmons and Carter Simmons (Springfield, IL); and many Aunts, Uncles, in-laws, cousin, five nephews, and one great niece. Celebration of life will be held August 23, 2020 at Fox Bend Golf Course (tent), Rt. 34, Oswego, IL from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Funeral to be planned for Wenona Community Cemetery in Wenona, IL. Cremation will take place at American Crematory in Oswego, IL. Memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor's choice.
