March 27, 1941 – April 19, 2024
James K. "Jim" Hounshell, age 83, of Sheridan, IL, peacefully passed away with his loving family by his side on Friday, April 19, 2024 at Accent Care Hospice in Naperville, IL. He was born March 27, 1941 in Aurora, IL, the son of Raymond "Ray" and Irene Hounshell.
Jim proudly served his country in the US Army stationed in Germany from 1961 to 1964. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he worked at Equipto in Aurora for several years, then moved to California to work for Pfizer before returning to Aurora. He was self-employed as a sandblaster for over 20 years and worked for NAPA in Yorkville for 20 years. He had a knack for quickly putting jigsaw puzzles together and playing not only basketball, but football. He loved to follow sports on the T.V.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years Cheryl nee Carpenter Hounshell, daughters Kay Wackerlin, and Kellie Hounshell, granddaughters Kylie Wackerlin and Kira Wackerlin, grandson Gabriel Brown, sisters Dorothy (Al) Terry, Alice Shaw, Helen Hanson and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Raymond, infant sister Helen, sister-in-law Nora (Lovall) Hounshell and brothers-in-law Denny Hanson and Ralph Shaw.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at DUNN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME with CREMATORY, 1801 S. Douglas Road, Oswego, IL 60543. Burial of the urn with military honors at Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery will take place at a future date.
