James David "Jim" Hard, age 75, of Aurora, IL, beloved husband, father and grandfather, peacefully passed away on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019, at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, IL. He was born Oct. 7, 1943, in Aurora, IL, to parents Charles Otto and Marjorie (nee MacGibbon) Hard, who proceeded him in death.
Jim was a 1961 graduate of East Aurora High School and a member of the Vaqueros Drum and Bugle Corps. He married his high school sweetheart, Judith "Judy" Harrington, on Dec. 21, 1963, and they spent 55 happy years together.
Jim and Judy founded Swim Shack, Inc. in Sugar Grove, IL, in 1978. Since 1997, Jim has worked alongside his son, Josh, running the successful family business.
Jim was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aurora, IL, and served with the Stephens Ministry.
One of Jim's passions was travel. He loved his second home in Florida and enjoyed numerous cruises and vacations, often taking his family with him.
He is survived by his wife, Judy; children Jim Hard of Aurora, IL, Jody (Angie) Hard of North Aurora, IL, Jennifer (Jason) Morris of Sugar Grove, IL, Joshua (Molly) Hard of North Aurora, IL, and Jeremy Hard of Aurora, IL; special son Brian Kleemann of Aurora, IL; grandchildren Kennedy, Riley, Vaughn, Drake and Isis Hard, Amber and A.J. Kunold, Zach and Eli Wilson, and Kaylee and Breanna Hard; sister Carol Crawford of FL; brothers Dennis (Edie) Hard of Aurora, IL, and Alan (Sue) Hard of North Aurora, IL; several nieces and nephews; and snuggling faithful companion, Dobby.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Jan. 18, 2019, from 3 until 8 p.m. at DUNN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME with CREMATORY, 1801 S. Douglas Road, Oswego, IL 60543. A funeral service will be on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019, at 10 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 85 S. Constitution Drive, Aurora, IL 60506. Burial will follow at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Montgomery, IL.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim's name to Aurora Christian School, 2255 Sullivan Road in Aurora, or St. Paul Lutheran Church.
