It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of James Barry Gibson, Jr., a beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend. James, known affectionately to many as "Jim," was born on February 9, 1969, in Paterson, NJ, and he left this world on his 57th birthday, February 9, 2026, in Oswego, IL.
Jim was the cherished son of James Barry Gibson, Sr. and the late Sandra L. (nee Toss) Gibson, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his devoted father, James Barry Gibson, Sr. (Annette); his loving wife, Michelle M. Altobella; and his two adoring children, Hunter and Sadie Gibson, Larry Altobella and Tony Ashley, as well as his brother, Brian Gibson (Ashley Smith). Together, they form a deep network of love and memories that will carry on his spirit.
A proud alumnus of Penn State University, Jim earned his bachelor's degree and went on to build a successful career as the Vice President of Sales and Marketing for a transportation company. His professional life was marked by his dedication to excellence and his genuine desire to help others, both in business and in his personal life.
Jim was not just a remarkable professional; he was also a good man at heart-one who loved helping people and was deeply committed to his family. He was an avid sports fan, particularly devoted to the Philadelphia Eagles, and that passion often led to spirited discussions and joyous celebrations. Jim had a unique way of bringing people together, whether it was grilling on his beloved Blackstone, where he was famous for his chicken fajitas, or taking leisurely walks with his cat.
Above all, Jim was a devoted father who never missed an opportunity to support his children. He could be found at every one of Hunter and Sadie's sporting events, cheering them on with unbridled enthusiasm and love. His commitment to his family and his ability to make everyday moments special will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Rest in peace, dear Jim. You will be missed, but your spirit will live on in the countless lives you have impacted. The world changes from year to year, our lives from day to day, but the love and memory of you shall never pass away.
A memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, February 15, 2026, from 1:00 P.M. until time of prayer service 3:30 P.M. at DUNN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME with CREMATORY 1801 S. Douglas Road Oswego, IL 60543. For information, 630-554-3888 or visit his memorial page at www.dunnfamilyfuneralhome.com
