James C Gates age 77 of Aurora, IL. at rest Friday, December 29, 2023, at Alden Estates of Naperville. He was born January 1, 1946, at St. Charles Hospital Aurora Il, the son of the late George and Mildred (McFarland) Gates and remained lifelong resident of Aurora. Jim was a graduate of East Aurora High school enjoying wrestling, golf, and band playing multiple instruments. High school is where he met the love of his life, Kathleen "Kathy" (Allway) Gates. He was a proud veteran of the US Army, serving our country in Vietnam two years from 1965-67. Upon returning from war Jim and Kathy were married in 1968 and built a life together for over 55 years. Jim was an accomplished carpenter and draftsman for over 40 years in the Aurora area building, designing, or remodeling 600 homes.

To say Jim was an avid golfer is an understatement, he also enjoyed fishing, bowling, building things and always staying active. Long time member of the 3rd Ward and Pheonix Clubs of Aurora. He had a great sense of humor and twinkle in his eye. He loved a good conversation, especially over a couple drinks or at breakfast with his golf buddies on Wednesday mornings at Denny's. He was a wealth of information, always ready to share his knowledge and expertise with anyone who asked. His perfectly manicured lawn will never be the same.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen "Kathy" Gates, two children James J. (Sarah) Gates and Jennifer (Tim) Meyer, four grandchildren Susan (Rich) Riefke, Cody (Kaity) Gates, Allison (Flint) McLoughlin, Samatha Meyer, five great grandchildren Mary, Wesley, Ricky, Emersyn, Helen.

He was preceded in death by his parents George and Mildred, brothers Robert "Bob" Gates, Gerald "Jerry" Gates, sister Dorothy (Gates) Stalker and many family members and friends over the years.
