James L. DeVos, a cherished husband, father, and friend, was born on March 10, 1948, in Chicago, Illinois. He peacefully passed away on April 22, 2025, at Rush-Copley Medical Center Aurora, Illinois, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
James is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Lois E. DeVos (nee Orlowski), and their son, Ryan DeVos. and sister Roberta Kieltyka. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry DeVos and Florence DeVos (nee Biel), his son, Bryce DeVos, and brother in law Jeffery Kieltyka. James dedicated a significant portion of his life to his work, serving as the owner of Heller and Thompson Inc. until his retirement in 2010. His commitment to his profession reflected his strong work ethic and determination, characteristics that were admired by many.
Beyond his professional life, James was a man of many passions. He had a profound love for reading, which opened new worlds and ideas to him. He treasured the times spent working on cars with his sons, sharing not just technical knowledge but also the joy of bonding through shared interests. Fishing trips with his sons were memorable occasions filled with laughter and storytelling that strengthened their bond and created lasting memories. Traveling was another passion, as he and Lois enjoyed exploring new places and creating adventures together.
James was a man of integrity and warmth, known for his friendly demeanor and willingness to lend a hand. He embraced life with a spirit of generosity and kindness, making friends wherever he went. His love for his family was evident in everything he did, and he dedicated his life to nurturing those relationships.
Family and friends may gather for a Memorial Mass at St. Anne Catholic Church 551 Boulder Hill Pass Oswego, Illinois 60543 on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at 10:00 A.M.
James will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of his loved ones. His legacy of love, dedication, and passion for life will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know him. Rest in peace, dear James; your journey continues in the hearts of those you left behind.
