Irene L. Unruh peacefully passed on to the loving arms of our Lord on November 25, 2020, at The Reserve of Oswego. She was born in Newton, Kansas on May 7, 1938. Irene grew up on a farm between Whitewater and Potwin, Kansas, graduated from Berean Academy, and earned a Bachelor's degree from Washburn University. Irene worked as a teacher at the Goessel grade school and as a First-grade teacher in Berryton, Kansas. In 1980, Irene (and her family) moved to Naperville, Illinois where she continued to teach at the Montessori Moppet Center until her retirement. Irene and Charles then moved to Oswego, Illinois. Irene enjoyed singing, camping, gardening, sewing, playing the piano, interior design, and attending craft shows. Irene was well-known by her daughter's friends as "Betty Crocker" as she loved to cook. She also enjoyed collecting owls, bells, and many coffee cups. Irene was a strong, faithful women active in the Lombard Mennonite church as she taught Sunday school, hosted morning coffee, and sang in the choir. Irene adored her children and grandchildren. Irene was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. We will miss her presence and gracious smile. Irene is survived by her loving & devoted husband of 62 years, Charles, children Jeff (Cindy) Unruh, Brad (Cathy) Unruh, and Renae Lynn Unruh. Grandchildren: Lacey (Andrew) Rush, Alexa, and Ashtynn Unruh, and Chris, Conroy, and Caity Unruh. Great Grandchild: Madison Renae Rush. Brothers: Richard (Carol) Busenitz and Calvin (Jodie) Busenitz. Sisters-in-law: Carol Brockmeier and Rachel (Mike) Clark. Brother-in-law: Rolly Wiens and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Martha Busenitz, and her dear sister Marge Wiens. Visitation will be on Thursday, December 3, 2020 from 10:30 AM until 1:00 PM at DUNN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME with CREMATORY, 1801 S. Douglas Road, Oswego, IL, 60543.
