Holly Rose Cherry, of Cherry Knoll Farm in Na-Au-Say Township, passed away on February 13, 2023 at Accent Care Hospice in Naperville.
She was born in Aurora on November 21,1937, to William Glen and M.Marion (Weber) Alexander. Their first child, she was joined by brothers Robert Glen and William George. She graduated from East Aurora High School in 1955, and worked in Chicago at the Burlington Railroad Headquarters for awhile.
She married John Phillip Cherry on December 1st, 1956, and they raised three children together: Laura (Dave) Burk, John (Alan) Cherry, and Glen Phillip (the late Kim) Cherry, while farming.
She engaged with her community as a choir member, an advocate for agriculture in trips to Washington, DC with the Farm Bureau and Pork Producers, served as a Master Gardener for the U of I Extension, and worked for Community Contacts, Crisis Line of the Fox Valley, and Suicide Prevention Services, becoming Coordinator of Volunteers, retiring from there at 75. She made friends everywhere, and enjoyed them as well as family members far and near.
She and Phil celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary before his passing in 2017.
She leaves four granddaughters, Jillian Cherry, Megan Grupp, and Amanda and Rebecca Burk, as well as two great granddaughters, Ruby and Tillie Grupp.
Visitation will begin at 9 am on March 4th, with a service at 11 am, at Dunn Family Funeral Home, 1801 Douglas Rd, Oswego.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Suicide Prevention Services or Friendship United Methodist Church.
