John T Hammond, age 70, of Montgomery, IL died Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora, IL. He was born October 1, 1942 in Washington, DC the son of the late John R and Margaret A nee Leisher Hammond. He served his country honorably with the US Coast Guard during the Vietnam Conflict. Prior to his retirement he was employed at Bell Labs as a computer programmer. Over the years he was active in the Batavia B&B Square dance group, Independent Order of Foresters, Boy Scouts of America where he was a scout leader and served on the Two Rivers BSA Council. He is survived by his wife Margaret 'Peg' Sechrest, a daughter Terri (Brian) Peters of Batavia, IL, three sons Robert (Kim) Hammond of Yorkville, IL, Ryan (Janet) Hammond of St Charles, IL, Randy Hammond of Rockford, IL; two step-sons John (Martha) Sechrest of Renton, WA, James Sechrest of Montgomery, IL; nine grandchildren and the mother of his children Beverly (Charles) Gaddis of Poplar Grove, IL.
