Gurjit Kaur, better known to family as Mummy Ji was a miraculous woman that positively impacted the lives of everyone that was blessed to have met.
She was born in Narli, Punjab, India as the older of two daughters and grew up in Punjab. In 1959, she married S. Dhanraj Singh Boparai, and over the next few years gave birth to her two children, Mohinder Raj and Rajbaljinder. Together the family planted their roots in Chandigarh, and that is where she lived for a great part of her adult life. She lived in Sector 15-C of Chandigarh, in the most beautiful home that has fond memories for us all.
What can I say about my Mummy ji? She loved us unconditionally and lived to make her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids happy. My fondest memories were visiting her in India and playing cricket at her home or when she would send us to the market to get groceries and wouldn't mind that it was mostly candy, sweets, soft drinks, or toys. She's the reason that I have love for sweets, she gave me my first ladoo.
Mummy Ji was so full of knowledge and fascinating stories. She told stories of her childhood, her marriage, kids, and grandkids. If you wanted to know someone's birthday, telephone number, or how someone was related, she would be that wealth of knowledge.
Not only was Mummy Ji devoted to her family, but she was also very devoted to her faith. Waheguru Ji was always present in her life. As a lifelong devotee of Sikhism, she lived to the values of the Guru Granth Sahib. Every morning would begin with Japji Sahib and recite that prayer seven times. If you knew her, you could see her unwavering devotion to Waheguru.
Alas, Mummy Ji is no longer here in body, but will always be here in spirit and in the heart of those that were blessed enough to have met her. She is now with the love of her life, S. Dhanraj Singh Boparai, and may they watch over all of us.
Sat Sri Akal Mummy Ji. We love you.
