Gloria McLain 93, passed away Friday, June 7th at Autumn Leaves Memory Care in Oswego, Illinois, following an extended illness. She was born November 7th, 1925 to Peter and Jean Olga Cautilli in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She graduated from East Stroudsburg Teachers College with a degree in Education. She later obtained her Masters Degree in Education from the University of South Florida. She married Wylie McLain Jr. in Arcadia, Florida on December 31st, 1949. and they had a son, Stephen in 1953. Wylie passed away on June 21st, 2006. Gloria taught both Junior High and High School, first in Arcadia, Florida and later in St. Petersburg, Florida. She taught art, history and later focused on mathematics during her 35 year career. Both before and during retirement, many former students approached her and expressed appreciation for being in her classes. In retirement, Wylie and Gloria traveled to visit their grandchildren in Houston Texas and Bloomington Illinois. They also visited family in North Carolina and Philadelphia. Gloria learned line dancing and joined "The Posse" in dancing at events in town. She also learned to sail and enjoyed their boat, the "Sea Sea" with Wylie at Pinellas Point in St. Petersburg. Gloria was a long standing member of Blessed Trinity Catholic Church, as well as the South Pinellas and Florida chapters of the Retired Teachers Association. Surviving are her son Stephen (Sherilyn) McLain of Yorkville, Illinois, grandchildren Christina (Eric) McCroskey of Plainfield Illinois, grandson Matthew (Kim) McLain of Phoenix, Arizona along with two great grandchildren. Services will be held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church of Merna 1001 N Towanda Barnes Rd, Bloomington, IL 61705, on Monday, June 17, 2019, 2:00 p.m. Final interment will be at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 5233 118th Ave. N., Clearwater, Florida, 33760, on June 20, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of the donor's choice.
