Gerald John Minard, 78, of Millington passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at the Hines Veteran's Administration Hospital, surrounded by his family. Gerald was born March 10, 1939 in Aurora to West & Margaret (Kindelberger) Minard. He entered the US Army in 1962 and after 8 years of service to his country he was Honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1970. He married Anna Jean Hausler January 21, 1965. Anna passed May 17, 2007. Gerald was a diesel mechanic for Consolidated Freightways in Chicago for many years. He had served as the Millington Police Chief and the village street commissioner for several years, operated a grocery store, a tool store and a craft store in Millington. He was a member of Fox Valley Older Adults and Automobile Mechanics Local #701. He was an avid Cubs fan. He is survived by four children, Mark (Connie) Minard of Cypress, TX., Michelle (Timothy) Johnson of Sandwich, Danielle (Frank Schuemann) Hahn of Yorkville , Jeremy (Kristine Arch) Minard of Yorkville; eleven grandchildren, Breanne Minard, Jordan Johnson, Kirbey Johnson, Tylor Johnson, Brookelyn Johnson, Kailee Bland, Logan Bland, Colton Bland, Kouper Hahn, Lauren Doty, Jasmine Merfeld; three great grandchildren, Kamden Bland, Annalea Jordan, Melody Rose; a half-brother, George Hagerty and a half-sister Della Reynolds. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Anna Jean Minard; a sister, Christine Brown and a brother, Bill Minard. A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Sunday May 7th at the Gabel-Dunn Funeral Home Ltd. 102 S. Johnson St. Newark, IL. 60541-0623, phone 815-695-5131.
