George Smar, age 88, of Oswego, IL, peacefully passed away with his family by his side on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at his residence. He was born January 15, 1930 in Gary, Indiana, the son of the late John and Mary nee Demko Smar. George married Joanne Clement in 1962 in Merrillville, Indiana. He worked in Data Processing at Victory Beauty Systems of Hillside, IL until his retirement in 1998. He proudly served his country in the US Army from 1951 until 1953. He was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Oswego, IL. He was also involved in the Gary, IN VFW Post 1563 and also enjoyed playing golf and bowling. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Joanne, daughter Susan (Kevin) Scanlan of Oakwood Hills, IL, son James (Maryann) Smar of Harbor Springs, MI, grandchildren Austin, Lance and Luke Smar. He was preceded in death by three sisters and five brothers. The Blue Army of St. Anne Catholic Church will say a Rosary at 9:30 AM before a Mass of Christian Burial that will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at 10:00 AM at St. Anne Catholic Church, 551 Boulder Hill Pass, Oswego, IL. Private burial of the urn will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL. Arrangements are entrusted to DUNN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME with CREMATORY, 1801 S. Douglas Road, Oswego, IL 60543.
