George J. McHugh, 78, of Montgomery,IL passed away Friday, September 14, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family. George was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. On July 22, 1961 he married the love of his life Harriet "Cookie" nee Rowland. He coached his son's little league teams for many years, and was a member of the Tigers Athletic Club. He worked as a Carpenter with Builders Construction Co. until retiring in 2002, where he was a 50 year member of the Carpenters Union Local 1889. George was also an extremely loyal fan of the Chicago Blackhawks, Cubs, and Bears and loved collecting bottles, books, and just anything he came across that was an "antique." He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, three children, Kevin (Shauna) McHugh, Kathleen Armstrong, Barbra (Russ) McHugh; four grandchildren, Chloe, Hannah, Jason, and Courtney; a sister, Margarete Darrow and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Margaret nee Delaney McHugh, and two sisters Georgann Darrow and MaryAnn Buchman. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation 200 SE 1st Street, Suite 800, Miami, FL. or any charitable organization in George's name. The McHugh family would also like to send a special thank you to the Staff of Divine Hospice, especially Natalie and Misty for their service and compassion.
