Gail Sue Lawrence, 73, of Newark formerly of Sheridan passed Monday morning February 19, 2018 at the Morris Hospital.
Gail was born August 14, 1944 in Sandwich to Ivan G. & Fern E. (Larson) Waite. She was joined in marriage to William Lawrence August 2, 1969 at the Newark Lutheran Church. Gail served as a Lieutenant in the US Navy Nursing Corps from December 1965 – December 1969. She had worked as an RN for many years, including as an OB nurse at Ryburn-King Memorial Hospital in Ottawa, the Sandwich Hospital, the Sheridan Correctional Center, an instructor at the Copley Memorial Hospital Nursing School, a nurse for home health care and in Dr. Janet Beck's practice. She was a member of the Newark Lutheran Church, the Newark American Legion Post #459 and The Friends of the Charles B. Phillips Library.
Gail is survived by her husband William; a son, Michael (Patricia) Lawrence of Yorktown, VA; a daughter, Amy (Daniel) Motchnik of Big Rock; seven grandchildren, Devon (fiancé, Diana Linton) Vono, Joshua Lawrence, Marcus Motchnik, Jared Lawrence, Gianna Motchnik, Grace Motchnik and Nathan Motchnik.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother George Waite.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 24th at the Newark Lutheran Church with Pastor Luke Emerson officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be 2 hours prior to service. Inurnment of cremains with military honors will be at the Sugar Grove Cemetery in Sugar Grove, IL.
