Fred "Fritz" E. Neupert Jr., 90, of Montgomery, IL, passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side on January 18, 2015. He was born February 13, 1924 in Aurora, IL.
A lifelong resident of Montgomery, he served as a Sgt. In the Fifth Army Air Force during World War II. Returning from the war, he was active in his community. Fred was a founding member, former Post Commander and lifetime member of the VFW Post 7452 in Montgomery, IL. For many years he was an active member of the Montgomery Volunteer Fire Department, serving as Assistant Chief. He worked at Lyon Metal products for 45 years as a production supervisor and plant superintendent.
After the war, he married the love of his life, Viola Delaney, in 1946. They were together 40 years until her passing in 1986. He built their home himself from the ground up, living there the rest of his life. Fred enjoyed fishing, gardening, football and his beer. He was often seen around town riding his scooter to get from place to place. He loved the concrete business that he ran with his son, Scott (Lion Concrete) and built many friendships with the customers and often gave them veggies from his garden.
Fred is survived by his sister Margaret Coil of Cumberland, WI, brothers Tom (Ellen) Neupert and Danny (Jean) Neupert; his two sons: Kent Neupert of Boise, ID, Scott (Valerie) Neupert of Oswego, IL; five grandchildren: Conor and Liam Neupert of Boise, ID, DJ (Marta) Budziak of Montgomery, IL, Heather (Mark) Jebens of Aurora, IL, and Brandon Hammond of Oswego, IL; two great-grandchildren Caleb Budziak and Lucien Fortune; and many great nieces and nephews.
Fred was preceded in death by his beloved wife Viola, and his brothers, Paul Neupert of Oswego, IL and Chuck Neupert of Tucson, AZ.
The family would like to thank Countryside Care Center in Aurora, IL, and Sarah Fowler for their good care and attention. Also, Guiding Light Hospice for all of their exceptional care and love while Fred was at home.
