Evelyn Lucille (née Johnson) Ode, age 94, of Oswego, IL, passed away on October 2, 2026, surrounded by her family. A fourth-generation, lifelong resident of Oswego, Evelyn was a woman of quiet, steadfast faith who lived it out through service to others. She volunteered with the American Legion Auxiliary for decades, baking her signature angel food cake for weekly bingo night. She also managed the Oswego High School cafeteria for 14 years. Evelyn loved creating embroidered works of art her family will treasure, cheering on the Chicago Bears and White Sox, and traveling to northern Wisconsin for boat rides and watching bald eagles.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 69 years, John F. Ode; her parents, Clarence and Mary (Leadbetter) Johnson; her sister, Vivian Haas; and her sisters-in-law, Marilyn Guffey and Ida (Harold) White.

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Lorraine (Dennis) Beasley of Oswego, IL, of whom she was so proud; her granddaughters, Jennifer (James Daily) Beasley of St. Louis, MO and Michelle Beasley of Washington, D.C.; and her brothers-in-law, Roy (Irene) Ode of Earlville, IL, and Jim (Paula) Ode of Oswego, IL, together with nieces and nephews.

The family thanks the caring staff of Rush Copley Medical Center, AccentCare Hospice, and Bickford Assisted Living of Oswego.

Visitation, services, and interment will be private, with the Rev. Philip Sheets officiating. Arrangements are by Dunn Family Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kendall County Community Food Pantry.
