Eugene E. "George" Sollinger, 79, of Aurora passed away peacefully after a long illness on October 25, 2023, at Ascension Mercy Hospital in Aurora.

He was born in Aurora on June 6, 1944, the son of Edward and Dorothy (Alexander) Sollinger.

Eugene worked at City Auto Wreckers for many years and enjoyed all things to do with cars, including repair of older vehicles. In his younger years, he especially enjoyed going to the Oswego Drag Strip on Sunday afternoons and continued watching NASCAR races as well as the Indianapolis 500. He was known by close friends and family as "George" a nickname he acquired many years ago.

Survivors include three brothers, Edward Sollinger of Aurora, Richard (Judy) Sollinger of Oswego and Gerald (Sandy) Sollinger of Freeport; four sisters, Marilyn (Chuck) McKinney of Aurora, Mary Jane (Ed) Whatley of Big Rock, Darlene (Benney) Rush of Quitman, AR and Sally (Paul) Kaulas of Wilmette and several nieces and nephews, as well as his devoted caregiver Jackie Benjamin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Vincent Sollinger, and a brother at birth and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family would like to thank Ascension Mercy Hospital and Rainbow Hospice for the gentle care they provided him during his final days.

In keeping with Eugene's "George's" wishes, there will be no funeral services.
