Eric "Rick" Scott Mikkelson, 52, of Oswego, IL died Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at 11:17 pm at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, IL. He was born September 17, 1964 in Naperville, IL.
He graduated from Naperville Central High School in 1982 and went on to Eastern Illinois University where he received a degree in marketing in 1987.
Rick is survived by his wife Julie A. nee Swenson Mikkelson, his daughter Annika Mikkelson, his son Erik Mikkelson; his mother Alice (nee) Auld Galassi of Naperville, IL; his sister Dianna (James) Lorraine of Plainfield and nephew Donovan and niece Kady Lorraine; his mother and father in-law James and Shirley Swenson of Dunedin, FL; sister-in-law Carolyn (Michael) Potochniak of Washington, NJ and their daughters Jessica, Ana and Alia Potochniak of California; brother-in-law Michael (Cindy) Swenson of Naperville, IL and his niece Heidi Swenson. He was preceded in death by his father David L. Mikkelson who also passed away from a construction accident 50 years earlier. He is also preceded in death by his stepfather Joseph Galassi and his paternal and maternal grandparents.
Rick loved to golf and working in construction was his passion. He loved to travel with his family and Hawaii and Mexico were his favorite destinations. He was a master at Scrabble and it was a rare occasion for Julie to win a match. His greatest joy was supporting his children. He was so proud of his "pumpkin" Annika and her amazing academic success and he was Erik's number one football fan and loved nothing more than watching him play ball.
Rick has touched the lives of so many, and he has given life to strangers through the Gift of Hope organ donation program.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, July 16, 2017 from 1:00 to 7:00 PM at the DUNN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME with CREMATORY 1801 Douglas Road Oswego, IL. Funeral service will be held on Monday, July 17, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Funeral Home. Cremation will take place in accordance with the family's wishes.
