Charles "Ed" Edward Ellis, age 93, of Aurora, IL went to join our Lord on February 25, 2014. Ed was born June 8, 1920 in Rathbun, IA, the son of the late Charles C. and Alvena (Dickmann) Ellis. Ed was raised in Iconium, Iowa and graduated from Centerville High School. On December 8, 1940 he married his high school sweetheart Juanita (Harrett) Ellis. During the spring of 1941, they moved to Aurora, IL, where they enjoyed 64 years of marriage. Ed served his country in the U.S. Navy. During World War II, he was stationed on the USS JC Owens destroyer 776 and during the Korean war, Ed was on the USS Thompson destroyer minesweeper 38. Ed was a radar man serving in the South Pacific, Japan and Korea. After his service he attended Aurora University. Ed was personnel manager at Richards-Wilcox Manufacturing and retired in 1985 after 39 years of faithful service. He was very involved in both his church and community. Mr. Ellis was a long time member of Bethany of Fox Valley Church, where is served on many different committees and was head usher for 20 years. He was a lifetime member of the Moose Club 400 and the VFW. Ed was a trustee and past president of the Wayside Cross Ministries; member of the R-W 25 year club; past member and officer of the Fox Valley Personal Club; Toast Master Club of Aurora, IL and the R-W Credit Union. Over the years Ed was a member of the Richard-Wilcox baseball, bowling and golf teams. After retiring, Ed kept on golfing, worked as an election judge and served on the board at The Gardens of Boulder Hill, Montgomery, IL where he and Juanita lived for 25 years. In 2008, Ed moved to Alden Gardens Assisted Living in Aurora, IL. Mr. Ellis is survived by his daughter Dee (Ray) Wheaton of Cape Fair, MO, grandchildren Wendy Wheaton-Minor of Joliet, IL, Wayne Wheaton of Aurora, IL, great-granddaughter Miranda Minor of Springfield, MO, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Juanita, three brother-in-laws and two sister-in-laws Visitation will be held on Friday, February 28, 2014 from 10:00 AM until service time of 11:00 AM at the Bethany of Fox Valley United Methodist Church, 2200 Ridge Avenue, Aurora, IL 60504. Burial will follow at Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery in Aurora, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wayside Cross Ministries, 215 E.
