Elenore Marie Poss (January 27, 1924-February 1, 2023) passed away early on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, after having just celebrated her 99th birthday on January 27th with her family around her.

Better known as "Aunt Elenore", she was the baby sister of Raymond Poss (1920-2019) and Louis Poss (1917-2004). She was the daughter of Mitze (November 30, 1889-December 14, 1974) and Henry Poss (December 12, 1887- November 3,1954).

She is mourned by her family who meant so much to her for so long. Her nieces and nephews, Jim, Jeff, Jan, Joy, John, Jim, Bob and Mike. She also had many great-nieces and nephews—Megan, Adam, Giselle, Jennifer, Melissa, Jamie, Brian, Eric and Megan.

Elenore, along with her two brothers, worked at IBM. Recognized for her intelligence, she landed an important position as an executive secretary. After working for thirty-six years, she retired in 1987.

She took care of her mother, Marie (Mitze) until her passing in 1974.

Her family will remember Aunt Elenore as a gentle, quiet, poised, and virtuous woman who cared for everyone and always asked how everyone was doing. Her nephew, Mike Poss, reminisces that to him she resembled elegant royalty in the style of Queen Elizabeth II's sister, Margaret. She had a classy excellence that was simple, but of high quality. She shopped at Marshall Field's on State Street for smart and professional, executive dress.

She practiced yoga to keep herself fit and loved to travel with her girlfriends and often visited Europe and other countries.

Elenore's faith held strong in her. She would attend Mass regularly at Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago where she lived for many years on the Gold Coast. She told a story of how her father presented her with a silver and crystal rosary on her eighteenth birthday. She continually used it for prayer, and it is now a family heirloom.

She was traditional, but open minded; she had a sharp wit, gave good advice and had sweet and intimate moments with her relatives when they would share Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays together. Her sense of Teutonic perfection was always present as she would critique what she felt was not up to her exceptional standards of service that she adhered to herself.

Her passing this week leaves a void in the lives of her Poss families that cannot be filled. Her humility is matched only with her devotion to her family and fidelity to them and to Mary, Christ and God.
