Edward "Ed" Kirner
Ed Kirner, 91, of Montgomery, IL passed away peacefully on November 24, 2023, at Jennings Terrace in Aurora, IL.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carole, his children Joe Kirner, Diana (Mark) Fill, Karen (Steve) Van Valey and stepson Markus (Nu Bell) Peek. Ed is the proud grandfather of Alyssa Van Valey, Mackenzie Van Valey, Garrett Fill, Lanie Elkins and Evelyn Grace Peek. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Teresa Kirner, sisters Connie Gates and Bea Miller, and stepdaughter Kristy Peek.
Ed graduated from East Aurora High School in 1951 and was employed for 37 years by the Beacon News as a printer. He was involved in men's fastpitch softball since 1955 and won two national awards for softball publicity from the National Association of Softball Writers and Broadcasters. He published the Grand Slam Fastpitch Newspaper for 15 years and did public relations for the Home Savings and Loan men's fastpitch softball team for 14 years. The Aurora Men's Fastpitch Association named him Man of the Year in 1992. He was an International Softball Congress (ISC) Commissioner and served 12 years as the president. In 1989 he was elected to the ISC Hall of Fame.
A Memorial Gathering will be held on Friday, December 8, 2023, from 10:00 A.M. until time of service 11:00 A.M. at the DUNN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME with CREMATORY 1801 S. DOUGLAS ROAD OSWEGO, IL 60543. Inurnment will be held privately.
