Harold Eddy Jr., 83, of Newark died peacefully Tuesday morning, October 14, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Harold was born July 24, 1931 in LaSalle, IL., (the first caesarian baby delivered in LaSalle County) to Harold & Elizabeth (Baum) Eddy Sr. During the Korean conflict Harold served his country as a PFC in the US Marine Corps, stationed stateside from 1950 to 1953. He married Marjorie Marie Underwood December 31, 1955 at the Church of God in Marseilles. Marjorie passed March 31, 2013. He worked at the Caterpillar Tractor Co. in Montgomery in material controls until his retirement January 1, 1989. He was a member, past Commander & treasurer of the Newark American Legion Post #459. He was also a member of the Newark Fire Department, past trustee for the Village of Newark, Little League Coach and long time score keeper for the Newark High School. He had previously attended the Newark 1st Baptist Church and had been attending the Millington United Methodist Church. He is survived by his three daughters, Pamela Hook of Newark, Gail (Craig) Duy of Millbrook, Tina (Mike) Pribyl of Newark; his two sons, Ray (Lynn) Eddy of Newark, Roger (Rebecca) Eddy of Hutsonville, IL.; seventeen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Marjorie; a grandson, Eric Eddy; five sisters, Florence Eddy-Bland, Bernadine Eddy-Chapman, Irva Eddy-Casarso, Elsie Eddy-Chasteen, Dorothy Eddy-Hopper and a brother, Eugene Eddy. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 17th at the West Lisbon Church with Pastor Kirk Scott officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Gabel-Dunn Funeral Home Ltd. In Newark. Interment will be at the Norway Cemetery with full military honors. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Nicholas Eddy, Jeffrey Eddy, Matthew Eddy, Daniel Hook, Michael Neitzer, Matthew Neitzer, Michael Pribyl Jr. and Jonathon Hook. In lieu of flowers all memorial gifts will be given to Harold's favorite charities.
