Earl Eugene Severson, 89, of Newark passed Sunday evening, October 6, 2019 at Willow Crest Nursing Pavilion. Earl was born September 6, 1930 in Newark to Joseph Clarence & Helen Beryl (Sage) Severson. He married Doris Marie Hilliard November 18, 1950 at the 1st Lutheran Church of Plano. Doris passed December 28, 2014. Earl served as a Sergeant in the Army from 1952 - 1953 and for his service in Korea received the Korean Service Medal and 2 Bronze Service Stars. He had been a farmer in the Newark area all his life and had also owned and operated a trucking service. He was a member of the Millington United Methodist Church and the Newark American Legion Post #459. In the past Earl had served on the boards of the Millington United Methodist Church, Soil & Water Conservation Dist., Farm Bureau and Millington-Newark Cemetery. Earl is survived by his two daughters, Marcia (Olin) Fite of Round Rock, TX, Ruth Hartline of Newark; his son, Owen (Beverly) Severson of Sheridan; ten grandchildren, Jennifer (Mark) Brimberry, Sarah Fite, Thomas (Jeanette) Fite, Michael (fiancé Emily) Fite all of TX., Emily (Kyle) Lewis of Royalton, IL., Mary (James) Shannon of Marseilles, Jeffrey (Katie) Severson of Somonauk, David (Kim) Severson of Sandwich, Jill (Dave) Ashton of Ottawa; twelve great grandchildren, Jacob, Andrew, Lauren, Elizabeth Brimberry, Calvin, Olivia Fite, Haley, Cole, Austin Shannon, Claire, Tripp, Kali Ashton; two sisters, Beryl McKanna of Newark, Marilyn (Henry) Regaldo of Val Rico, FL.; three brothers, Wesley (Loraine) Severson of San Diego, CA, Ronald (Judy) Severson of Newark and Richard (Kathy) Severson of Newark. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Doris Marie Severson; a grandson Marine Corporal Joseph Fite; a brother, Gerald Severson; a sister-in-law Lorraine Severson, brother-in-law Gerald McKanna and a son-in-law William Hartline. A visitation will be held from noon – 2:00 p.m. with the funeral service at 2:00 Friday, October 11th with Pastor Richard Fassig officiating at the Gabel-Dunn Funeral Home Ltd. 102 S. Johnson St. Newark, IL, 60541, phone 815-695-5131. Interment with military honors will be at the Millington-Newark Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Plano American Legion Post #395, 510 E. Dearborn St, Plano, IL, 60545. Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Severson, David Severson, David Ashton, James Shannon, Thomas Fite, Michael Fite and Mark Brimberry.
