Duane Royal Elstad, age 82, of Oswego, IL passed peacefully on April 4th, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones.

Duane was born on October 23, 1940, to the late Clarence and Sarah Mae Elstad in Jamestown, North Dakota.

After high school, Duane joined the Navy, and worked for Bekin Van Lines for 40 years. After retirement, Duane worked at The Y in Oswego, loved playing golf, and enjoyed woodworking. He shared his talent by making gifts for family and friends. But everyone loved his storytelling. He had an amazing way of telling a joke like it was a real story. Then, at the end, he would smile and deliver the punch line. Everyone would laugh and say, "You got me again!" He was a member of a great group of guys called The Y's Guys. Duane was a good, kind, God loving, honest, hardworking, dog loving family man. His grandchildren looked up to him and he influenced their lives. He is loved and will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Robert "Bobby" Elstad.

He is survived by his wife, Katie/Kathy of 28 years, his dog, Sophie, their children: Kim Schmidt, Melissa (Matt) McKirdie, Tiffani (Ken) Engstrom, Todd (Kim) Liska, and 13 grandchildren: James, Caitlin, Kayla, Bailey, Karissa, Jon, Jimmy, Jason, Amber, Brianna, Zach, Lauren, Brooke and 2 great-granddaughters, Maddy and Kallie. He is also survived by 2 sisters, Shirley Jeske, Carol Tyson and 2 brothers, Clarence Elstad, Craig Elstad.

We will be celebrating the life of this good, good man on June 11th, 2023, from 11 to 2 at Papa's Pizza Place, 8258 Janes Avenue in Woodridge IL. Come and share your stories and memories of Duane.
