Doris Mae Kucenski went to her heavenly home with Jesus November 14, 2024 at the age of 95.
She is survived and dearly loved by her husband of 75 years, Rev. William A. Kucenski. The couple was blessed with 9 children: Robert (Jean), Daniel (Susan), Stephen Kucenski, Michael (Diane), and William II (Susan) Kucenski, Sharon (Steve) Watkins, Jeanne (Robert) Krumwiede, James Kucenski, and Joanne (Timothy) Miller. Doris had one sister Joyce (Clarence) Black, a nephew David Black, and a niece, Diane (Pat) Dailey.
She will be missed by her grandchildren, Jennifer Kucenski, Stephanie (Scott) Lyle, Matthew (Lenny) Kucenski, Benjamin Kucenski, Joshua (Heather) Kucenski, Peter (Danielle) Kucenski, Anthony (Alma) Kucenski, Alexander (Laura) Kucenski, Andrew (Ruth) Kucenski, Megan (Uriah) Hawkins, Brian (Jenny) Watkins, Rachael (Peter) Farnum, Kristina (Paul) Farnum) Kathy (Brandon) Hein. Travis (Kristy) Wessels, Trenton Wessels. 26 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Dorothy Timm, her sons Robert, Stephen Kucenski, and James Kucenski, her sister Joyce Black, brother-in-law Clarence Black, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Doris was made a child of God by Holy Baptism on April 14, 1929, and was confirmed in her faith in May of 1943. Doris was active in her church. At their church, St. Luke's in Montgomery, IL, where her husband was pastor, she sang in the choir for 20 years and was a member of the Priscilla Guild. She loved to sing. In 1989 the couple, retired in Rochelle, IL, where they lived for 35 years. There she was active at St. Paul Lutheran Church, singing in the choir for another 20 years, playing handbells, and a member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, St. Paul's Senior Council, and St. Paul's Caring Group. Doris loved to sing and took every opportunity to sing with the many musical members of her own family choir which she considered to be one of her biggest blessings.
She was born in Appleton, WI, graduated as valedictorian from Central High School, Sheboygan, WI, and attended Valparaiso University, where she met her husband. After raising her children, she worked as secretary at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, and was a physician's assistant in Naperville, IL. In 1989 Doris and Bill retired to Rochelle, IL, where they lived for 35 years.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 25, 2024 from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 63 Fernwood, Montgomery, IL. Funeral will begin at 11:00 A.M at church followed by burial at Lincoln Memorial Park in Aurora, IL.
