Doris is survived by her daughter, Dolores (David) Matel; grandchildren, Adriene (Daniel) Durancik, Brandi (Dave McAvoy) Kuykendall, Catrina (Phil) Fahlbusch and Raymond (Megan) Matel; great-grandchildren, Nicolina (Josh) Cooper, Brittany (Tyler) DeBolt and Jacob Durancik, Natasha, Cayden, and Gage Falhbusch, Grayson McAvoy, Brody Matel; great-great grandchildren Brynnlee, Emmerson & Charlee Cooper, Hunter DeBolt and, Elijah Davis; and numerous nieces, and nephews.
Preceded in death by her husband, Carl E George (1983); parents, Frank and Anna (nee Brekke) Holub; one brother, Frank Arthur (Verna) Holub and four sisters Florence (Frank) Kindl, Francis (Charles) Clark, Carrie (Edward) Gentzkow & Lois (Frank) Tesar; Son Larry George.
Doris was born June 5, 1920 in LaMoure, North Dakota and raised in Verona North Dakota. She relocated to IA then to the Oak Park, IL with her sisters while working at Amertorp in Forest Park, IL where she met Carl. They were joined in marriage June 26th, 1948 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Chicago, IL. Doris was always the life of the party and loved to dance. She enjoyed Ballroom, Swing but especially the Polka. She was a regular on Sunday afternoons at the famous Willowbrook ballroom an avid gardener, and seamstress. She sewed and repaired clothes for her many nieces and nephews as well as for her children and grandchildren. She spent many hours quilting, creating all sizes but was famous for her baby & lap-robe size which she donated and gifted to many. She enjoyed bowling and was on many leagues. She loved country music and preferred to only listen to US 99(WUSN).
Doris credited her longevity to having at least one beer (MGD) a day with cookies. One of her greatest joys was caring for her grandchildren. Adriene- "Grandma's Love", Brandi- "Grandma's Sweetheart", Catrina-"Grandma's Precious", Raymond-"Grandma's Boy"
The family would like to offer a special thank you to all the many caregivers at the Joliet Area Community Hospice, Park Pointe healthcare & Rehabilitation center, and The Gardens at Park Pointe.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the Memorial Service at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, June 27, 2020 at the Gabel-Dunn Funeral Home, Ltd., 333 W. Church St., Sheridan, IL 60551.
Her cremains will be interred at Oakridge-Glen Oak Cemetery, Hillside, IL.
