Doris Carter, 94, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother entered eternal life on October 6, 2016, surrounded by her loving family at The Lutheran Home, in Arlington Heights, after a brief illness. Born to Edward & Elizabeth (Strutz) Olson, Doris was an active member of Concordia Lutheran Church, Berwyn, for 65 years. Doris volunteered at Brookfield Zoo for 20 years, delivered Meals on Wheels for 33 years, enjoyed traveling, snow birding, sewing, needlework of all kinds, playing cards, dominoes and especially spending time with family and friends. Preceded in death by her beloved husband of 68 years, Jim, her brothers Kenneth and Edward, grandsons Eric and Jeremy Svatek. Survived by children: James W. (Janet) Carter Jr., Susan (Frank) Svatek, Jane (Robert) Cikanek; grandchildren James (Linda) Carter III, Elizabeth (Scott) Nelson, Sarah (Vincent) Bartolome, David (Alyssa) Carter, Scott (Darleen) Svatek, Mark (Tamara) Svatek, Erin and Matthew Cikanek, 16 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Memorial service at St. John the Beloved Chapel/The Lutheran Home in Arlington Heights on October 14th at 11:30 am, visitation at 10:30 am. Interment at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery on October 17th at 1:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John the Beloved Chapel/The Lutheran Home, Arlington Heights or Concordia Lutheran Church, Berywn.
