Donald F. Hiemenz, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2025, in his hometown of Aurora, Illinois, where he was born on June 11, 1929. He lived a remarkable life of 95 years, filled with love, laughter, and a deep commitment to his family and community.

Donald was the cherished son of Val and Mildred Hiemenz. He graduated from Marmion Military Academy in 1947, a testament to his dedication and discipline. Following his education, he served honorably in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1954, a period that shaped his character and instilled in him the values of service and integrity.

On June 11, 1955, Donald married the love of his life, Mary Louise "MaryLou" Hames Hiemenz. Together, they built a beautiful family and shared countless memories until her passing on June 4, 2015. They raised two wonderful children, Cyndi (Steve) Breitzka and Steven (Michelle) Hiemenz, who have always been a source of pride and joy for Donald.

Donald was also preceded in death by his son, Donald Francis, Jr., who left this world far too soon on October 10, 1971. This loss weighed heavily on Donald's heart, yet he continued to find strength in his family and the love that surrounded him.

He is survived by his loving daughter Cyndi and her husband Steve, as well as his son Steven and his wife Michelle. Donald's legacy continues through his grandchildren, Erin (Breitzka) Dawson and her husband Hamilton Dawson, Ryan Breitzka, Ashley Hiemenz, and Jake Hiemenz along with his great-grandchild, Charlie Dawson. He was a proud grandfather whose eyes lit up at the sound of their laughter. Donald is also survived by his dear sister, Mary Williams, and numerous nieces and nephews who cherished their time with him.

Professionally, Donald was an esteemed engineer for Commonwealth Edison, where his expertise and dedication helped shape the foundation of the community. His work ethic and commitment to excellence were evident in every project he undertook.

Beyond his professional achievements, Donald was a passionate musician. He was a treasured member of the musicians' union and played bass for the band "The Blue Notes," a role he embraced from high school through the 1990s. Music was a vital part of his life, bringing joy not only to himself but also to those who had the pleasure of listening to him play.

In the latter part of his life, Donald found love again with his partner of 10 years, Judy Ippolito. Their companionship brought him happiness and comfort, and he cherished the moments they shared together.
