Obituary

Listen to Obituary

Donald Lloyd Breedlove, known affectionately to those who loved him as Dad and Papa, passed away peacefully in Tennessee on August 26, 2026, at the age of 82.

Born in Aurora, Illinois, on March 31, 1944, to the late Lloyd and Gladine Breedlove, Don lived a life defined by hard work, character, and an unforgettable sense of humor. Above all, Don loved Jesus and knew the saving grace of salvation through Him. His faith was an important part of his life, and he now rests in the promise of eternal life with his Lord and Savior.

A retired diesel mechanic by trade, Don possessed an innate understanding of how things worked and a lifelong appreciation for heavy machinery. He was an avid collector of International Harvester tractors, calendars, and anything related to the brand. You could often find him relaxing with his favorite magazine, Truck RoundUp, or offering his expert diagnostic advice-he firmly believed there was never a vehicle on the road that didn't need a set of new air shocks, and he always had a strong opinion on the design of a car's tail lights.

Above all his collections, fishing was his absolute passion. He was a true master of the sport, with an extensive collection of rods, reels, and lures, always ready for the next cast. When he wasn't tinkering or fishing, he was happiest enjoying a simple vanilla shake.

Don is now reunited with his beloved wife, Betty Breedlove; his parents, Lloyd and Gladine; his brother, Kenny Breedlove; and his sister, Judith Woodworth.

His legacy of strength, humor, and devotion lives on through his three daughters: Jennifer Parker (Gary), Jacqueline Cavagnetto (Stan), and Julie Sorg (Chuck). He leaves behind five grandchildren who brought him immense pride: CJ Welch (Sarah), Andy Welch (Page), George Sorg, Mary Cavagnetto, and Adam Cavagnetto (Allie); as well as four great-grandchildren: Aiden Welch, Ruby Welch, Nolan Welch, and Levi Cavagnetto. He is also survived by his brothers, Bill Breedlove and Gerry Breedlove, who shared a lifetime of childhood memories, laughter, and family with him.

Don will be laid to rest alongside his mother and father in his home state of Illinois.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026 from 9:30 a.m. until time of celebration of life service 10:30 A.M. at DUNN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME with CREMATORY 1801 S. Douglas Road Oswego, IL 60543. Inurnment will follow at Lincoln Memorial Park. For information, 630-554-3888 or visit his memorial page at www.dunnfamilyfuneralhome.com
