Dan C Dobbin, age 69, of Oswego, IL died Friday, July 4, 2014 at Hines VA Hospice Facility at Hines, IL after a long and lingering illness. He was born May 1, 1945 in Geneva, IL the son of the late Clifford and Margaret R nee Dehn Dobbin. Dan was a true patriot of the United States of America and served his country honorably with the US Army during Viet Nam. He was so proud that as the saying goes 'he wore his patriotism on his sleeve' He was employed for many years at the Illinois Department of Transportation doing highway maintenance and then went on to being a conductor and brakeman for the Burlington Northern railroad prior to early retirement in 1985 due to severe health problems. He was very active in the community with the Church of the Good Shepherd in Oswego, IL, Montgomery Memorial VFW Post 7452, Oswego American Legion Post #675, Aurora Moose Lodge #400, National Rifle Associationand the TriCounty Chapter of Vietnow in Montgomery, IL. Dan is survived by his wife of 44 years Marilyn D nee Kiefer Dobbin, a daughter Nancy (Steve Lawrentz) Dobbin of Yorkville, IL, two sons Kevin (Cindy) Dobbin of Aurora, IL, Jeff (Cherie) Dobbin of Sandwich, IL; three grandchildren Kenny Dobbin, Jaycee Fourmont, Lukas Dobbin; a sister Kathy (John) Morley of Dixon, IL. Visitation will take place on Sunday, July 13, 2014 from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at the DUNN FAMILY FUNERAl HOME with CREMATORY 1801 Douglas Road Oswego, IL. Funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, July 14, 2014 at 11:00 AM with Rev Kent Svendsen officiating. Burial with military honors will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Montgomery, IL.
