Dennis "Smitty" Smith, 69, passed away at his home in Montgomery, IL on February 16th, 2021 following a long battle with cancer. To the end of his days, Denny was always going out of his way to help others and was there whenever anyone needed him. Denny graduated from Oswego High School in 1970, and worked for many years in the telecommunications field, being one of the first to specialize in the emerging fiber optics industry. Later in life he worked for the City of Aurora as a consultant and was highly regarded in his field. In his free time, Denny loved woodworking and refinishing antiques. He had a shop at his home and did beautiful work. He is survived by his 2 children, Alex Smith of Chicago and Madelyn Smith of West Chicago, Sister Linda (Smith) Mang, Kim Smith, Mary (Smith) Walsh, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Buel and Doris (King) Smith and a brother David Smith. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
