Delano "Del" F. LaGow, 85 years of Oswego, IL died Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora, IL. He was born May 16, 1934 in Oswego, IL, the son of the late Lawson M. and Mary B. nee Firebaugh LaGow. Del became the scoutmaster of Oswego Boy Scout Troop 31 when his son Mike joined scouts. Del served over 50 years as a scout leader and 75 years combined as a young scout, leader and retired member. He loved campouts, hiking, Dutch Oven cooking, campfires filled with songs and skits and teaching survival skills. He originated Troop 31's 100 mile Current River Canoe trip and started the annual New Year's Day hike in the 1970's which is still continued to this day where the cost of admission is a can of soup for the food pantry and a can of soup for a communal soup for the hikers. Del was a standout football and basketball player for the Yorkville Foxes. He married his high school sweetheart, Carol and together they had one son, Michael. He retired from AT&T and Western Electric in 1988, but continued working for Blackberry Farms, Fox Valley Park District, Kendall County Forrest Preserve and for a while at the YMCA of the Rockies at Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. He served his country honorably in the US Army stationed in Germany and England during the Korean Conflict. He had a true patriotic love for his country, the American flag and it's veterans. Del had a deep faith in God and was a long-time member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Oswego. He is survived by his son Michael LaGow of Oswego, IL, his sister Alice Crawford of Yorkville, IL and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Carol LaGow, sisters Frances Roach, Betty Hauge, brothers Charles LaGow, Lawson LaGow, Jr. and Earl LaGow.
