David F. Whitney, of Delevan, WI, passed away on February 26, 2021 at Mercy Hospital in Janesville, WI. Surrounded by his loving family.
He was born October 6, 1952 in Aurora, Illinois.
David, who self-taught himself starting as a little boy, was an accomplished tap dancer. He began teaching tap and dance after graduating from high school in Oswego, Illinois. IN 2001 David and his mother moved to Lake Geneva where he continued teaching tap in the Walworth County area. He also owned and operated Crazy For You Flowers which specialized in wedding flowers.
In 2002 David became involved with the Lakeland Players, Ltd. He quickly became principal director and choreographer for the theater group His skillful creative abilities resulted in numerous highly entertaining performances. He created and directed two memorable revue performances, Hooray for Hollywood in 2014 and 45 Years- Still Alive n' Kickin in 2019.
Some of his other highly acclaimed directorial successes include Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat, 42nd Street, Crazy For You, Fiddler On The Roof, Mame, A Charlie Brown Christmas, and many more. David enjoyed being on stage for a tap dance number occasionally. The top hat, cane, white gloves, and spectator tap shoes were his trademark.
In 2019 David was named Artistic Director by the Lakeland Players group. His talents and dedication to musical theater will be sorrowfully missed in the Walworth County area. He is now "Dancing for the Lord."
He is preceded in death by his parents, David and Lorraine Whitney, and three siblings- Jerry Whitney, Judy Flatt, and Debra Whitney.
David is survived by his sister, Janice (James) Zimmerman, his best friend Gene Dahlberg, and several generations of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will take place on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at 12:00 P.M. at Lincoln Memorial Park in Aurora, IL.
