David Donald Carmody ("Grandpa Dave") of Oswego was called home to rest on January 19, 2023.

He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Dave was a generous and kind man, known for his quick wit as well as his sweet tooth. Dave was born in Carrollton, Illinois and graduated from Hardin High School in Calhoun County where he was a three-sport athlete. He attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale and was a member of the gymnastics team. After college, Dave made his way to Rockford, Illinois where he met Nancy Samorian, the love of his life, whom he married in 1962. Dave served his country in the Army Reserve in the 1960's. He made his career in the insurance industry and work took the family to Ohio, Maryland, and then ultimately to Oswego, which they called home since 1977. Dave and Nancy were married for 60 years and raised 5 sons together.  Dave enjoyed traveling the world with Nancy, together with family and friends, visiting all 50 U.S. states in addition to many countries across the world. After retiring, Dave became an usher at St. Anne Catholic Church. He was a regular fixture with several bridge groups, including at the Oswego Senior Center. Dave could often be found researching the stock-market, doing his 'paperwork', or enjoying Chicago sports from the comfort of his favorite recliner. Most of all, Dave enjoyed spending time with his family and could regularly be found around the area supporting his family at sporting events, dance recitals, ninja runs, family barbecues, and many other gatherings.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Philip and Mary Carmody, and six siblings.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy (née Samorian); a sister, Jeanette Wildhagen (née Carmody) of Jerseyville, IL; and sons Dave of Chicago; Mike (Laura) Carmody of Yorkville; Pat (Amy) Carmody of Oswego; Don (Julie) Carmody of Montgomery; and Steve (Marta Macé) Carmody of Tacoma, Washington, ten grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
