Cherie Lynn (Sauerbier) Andrews peacefully passed away in the early morning of Thursday, February 11, 2021, having just celebrated her 77th birthday the day before with her family. Born Thursday, February 10, 1944 to Howard and Veronica (Condon) Sauerbier in Harvey, Illinois, Cherie was the oldest of three daughters: Melinda (Roark) and Jill (who preceded her in death). In her childhood and teen years, Cherie enjoyed dancing and gymnastics. She was part of the first class to enter Marian Catholic High School. Fueled by a passion for learning and helping others, Cherie obtained her bachelor's degree from (now) Northwestern University in Chicago. A dedicated educator, Cherie spent 25 years teaching for Homewood School District 153 in Homewood, Illinois. Cherie retired in 1991 to dedicate time to her family, raising her children, when she and her family moved to Oswego, Illinois. She is remembered for recounting the trips throughout her life, especially as the memories coincided with whichever book she was currently reading--a lover of history and nonfiction, it was a common sight to see Cherie with a book in her hands. While Cherie recounted trips from childhood, her time abroad in France (where she was able to utilize her French) and other European countries, she remarked on the beauty of Austria often. Hawaii, too, would become a favored destination, being both her honeymoon destination and where her sister Melinda would live for some time. Cherie married the love of her life Norbert (Andy) on August 11, 1979, and together welcomed their first child, Megan, the following year, their first son, Michael, in 1982, and their second son, Matt (wife Nina), in 1985, all of whom survive her. Family was always Cherie's paramount concern and priority, and she dedicated her life to her family and close friends, especially her sisters Melinda and Jill. Cherie's grandchildren, Emersyn (6), Milo (4), and Collins (1), were the light of her later years and she cherished their frequent visits. Cherie will be remembered for the deep, considerate, and engaging conversations, sage advice, comfort, and care she would offer those around her--a truly unique gift. Having an incredibly affable personality, Cherie was able to make easy conversations and connections wherever she went. Such easy connections were made through her palpable strength and determination in light of suffering from multiple sclerosis for over 30 years. A devoted Catholic and optimistic individual, her strongly held faith and positive demeanor will continue to serve as an example long after her passing.
