Charles R. "Chuck" Johnson, a devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2025, at the age of 85, in Aurora, Illinois.

Born on September 14, 1940, in New Lexington, Ohio, Charles was the beloved son of Eugene 'Gene' E. Johnson and Mary C. (Fuchs) Johnson. He is survived by his devoted wife, Elaine J. (Tifrea) Johnson, with whom he shared an incredible six decades of love and partnership. The two were married on August 27, 1965, in Evanston, Illinois.

Chuck will be deeply missed by his children, Kenneth (Amy) Johnson and D. Craig (Melanie) Garbe, as well as his eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, who were his greatest joy. He will always be remembered for his warmth, humor, and the wisdom he shared with those he loved most.

A man of service and integrity, Charles proudly dedicated 25 years of his life to the United States Marine Corps, retiring as a Master Sergeant, where he developed an enduring sense of duty, discipline, and leadership that guided him throughout his life. After his military career, he continued his lifelong commitment to public service through his distinguished career with the Kane County Sheriff's Office, where he served as Captain of Court Security. His professionalism, mentorship, and leadership earned the respect and admiration of colleagues and community members.

Chuck was also an active member of the Fox Valley Marine Corps League, the Montgomery V.F.W., and the American Legion Post both in Illinois and in Lancaster, Ohio. His steadfast patriotism and devotion to his fellow veterans reflected the deep values he lived by every day.

Those who knew Chuck will remember his kind heart, ready smile, and unwavering willingness to help others. He loved spending time outdoors and especially enjoyed golfing at Bliss Creek Golf Course, which brought him many memories, friendships, laughter, and peace.

He is survived by his siblings: Sue (Tom) Tobin, Karen Boerger, Mar' Stanley, Nancy (Dan) Moats, and Tom (Jackie) Johnson. He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene E. Johnson; his mother, Mary Johnson; his beloved stepson, Dale P. Garbe; and his brothers-in-law, Phil Stanley and Gene Boerger.

Chuck's life was defined by compassion, dedication, and quiet strength. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were fortunate to know him. Though he is gone, his love and example will remain forever.

Chuck wished to have a memorial in lieu of a private service. A memorial celebration will take place in the Pine Room at Bliss Creek Golf Course, with the date and time to be announced in the near future.

Cremation arrangements were entrusted to Dunn Family Funeral Home with Crematory.
