Catherina Ruth-Rosser Jenkins, 82, of Oswego, IL died peacefully, December 16, 2019 at home surrounded by her family. Catherina was born March 6, 1937 in Wilkes Barre, PA to Chester and Ruth nee Williams Rosser. At a young age Cathy and her father moved to Lake Cary, PA to live with her paternal grandmother. Cathy loved to swim, boat and fish at the lake. At age 12 Cathy's grandmother, who was a significant role model in her life, passed away. Cathy accepted the responsibility of taking care of the home and meals while attending school in Tunkhannock, PA. Cathy was very involved in high school graduating with many honors including the National Honors Society, The Babe Ruth Foundation Sportsmanship Award and Valedictorian of her class. Her speech was titled "What All People Are Seeking-Peace". She was recognized by her classmates as accurate, logical thinker, fun loving, doing the most for the school, most courteous and most dependable. For those who have known Cathy over the years know she carried this same personality and work ethic with her throughout her life. Shortly after receiving an Associate Degree in Accounting from Scranton University, Cathy went to work for the Internal Revenue in auditing. On November 24, 1956 Cathy was united in marriage to Jack Jenkins at the First Methodist Church in Tunkhannock, PA. Following their wedding reception Jack and Cathy traveled to Illinois where they settled in Aurora before moving to Oswego in 1969 where their home still resides today. Cathy worked for Pines Engineering as a bookkeeper in the evenings for 11 years and kept the financial records for three physicians before starting her own business in 1968. Cathy owned and operated Jenkins Trophy & Awards, out of their home in Oswego until she took her last order at the age of 80. Cathy loved spending time getting to know her customers and had many repeat customers up until she "retired" in 2017. It was not unusual for Cathy to take an order at 9:00 p.m. at night for a "forgotten" award or two and have it ready the next morning. In addition to owning her own business, Cathy was a leader in the community. One of her many involvements started when her children were young. She volunteered for the East View PTA organizing the fun fairs and was involved in building the first all-natural playground at East View. Cathy was recognized by the Village of Oswego for co-chairing the original Oswego Days including the bicentennial parade in 1976. A few years later she started the Jr. Sr. Home and School Organization in School District 308 serving in many leadership roles including President until her youngest graduated from high school. In 1983 Cathy ran for the Oswego School Board serving until 1991. She served as President her second term. When Oswego was still predominately a farming community Cathy found herself involved in meeting new friends in the Homemakers Extension organization starting at the unit/club, and then joining the county, state and National level. At all levels Cathy served in a leadership position. The position of treasurer at the National level gave Cathy the opportunity to travel throughout the United States to meetings serving over 100,000 members at the time. She also served as a local 4-H leader, on the 4-H Fair Board, 4-H Youth Council and Executive Council. Another organization Cathy was passionate about was the Kendall County Republican Women where she gave her time and talent as treasurer for many years along with a two-year term as President. She was proud of initiating the first Republican Woman Scholarship to a high school senior in the county when she served as President. Several scholarships continued to be granted years following her term. Cathy also served as treasurer to the Illinois Federation of Republican Women at the state level. Cathy always looked forward to attending the National Federation of Republican Women Conventions every two years with her friends and daughter. One final organization that Cathy gave unconditionally to was the Kendall County Historical Society where she was a life time member. This was an organization she fell in love with because it meant spending time with Jack. Cathy not only served for over 30 years in this organization but served as treasurer, organized the activities and events for the Fall Festival, Halloween and Christmas at the Farm, gave school tours, stocked the food booth, cleaned the buildings and made endless phones calls for volunteers to help at all the functions. Cathy served as treasurer up until last year, volunteered at this year's Fall Festival in September and attended her last board meeting in November. She had an unstoppable source of energy. When Cathy was not working in her business or volunteering in the community, she enjoyed traveling, spending time with her grandchildren, visiting her son's lake house on Green Lake, WI, ushering at the Paramount Arts Theatre and taking care of a friend in need. Cathy is survived by her husband of 63 years, Jack Jenkins, children Scott (Lauri) Jenkins of Naperville, IL and Pam (Bob) Watts of Yorkville, IL; grandchildren Jackson Jenkins, Courtney Jenkins and Kathryn Jenkins; many nieces and nephews and her beloved Minnie. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.
