Carol Anne
Surges
Jul 18, 1945 — Jun 19, 2026
In loving memory of Carol A. Surges, 80, of Oswego, Illinois, who passed away on 19 June, 2026.
Carol was born on July 18, 1945, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Dolores (née Walker) and Loren Cotton. She was formerly of Joliet.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Clarence J. Surges, Jr. Together for 55 years, they made an unforgettable pair - full of life, devoted parents who were always down for an adventure. Carol was a loving mom whose family meant everything to her. She was always there for her daughters Kim Savage (Jeffrey), Debbie Wirth, and Tina DeBoer (Douglas). She gave her family endless energy, unwavering dedication, love, and was their biggest cheerleader.
That same love carried into her role as grandmother to Matthew, Katlyn (Doug), Linzy (Jasen), Ashly (Mark), Karli (Joe), Benjamin, Taylor (Justin), and Jenna (Rodney). She cherished her great grands Addison, Aubrey, Everitt, Skylar, Payton, Noah, Aubree, Theo, and Caleb.
She was preceded in death by her parents and grew up in a large family. Carol loved dancing with her sisters and spending summer time at the lake with cousins. She is survived by her siblings Rita (Howard), Nancy, Linda (Dave, deceased), Melody (Robert), and Kitty (Robert). She was preceded in death by siblings Dolores (Thomas, deceased), Larry (Susan), John, Marjorie, and Jacqueline. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews.
Carol attended Joliet Central High School and remained a lifelong member of the Catholic Church. She was an eternal optimist who met life's joys and challenges with energy and determination. Carol made friends easily and maintained lifelong friendships. Extraordinarily artistic and generous with her talent, which she shared freely with family and friends. She was exceptional at painting, knitting, and quilting. She was also an avid reader and gardener.
Carol truly embraced life and all the moments that came with it. Her family will miss her deeply and carry her love, encouragement, and spirit with them.
Per Carol's wishes, no public visitation or memorial service will be held. She'll be laid to rest at Risen Lord cemetery. In her memory, the family encourages acts of kindness toward others.
