Barbara "Bobbie" L. Johnson Obenauer, 87, of Yorkville died Saturday afternoon, May 13, 2017 at her daughter's home in rural Sheridan.
Barbara was born October 3, 1929 in Kansas City, Mo. to Karl Jahnke & Bonnie Powell. She graduated from the Yorkville Public Schools and the College of DuPage, with a degree in Library Technical Assistant (LTA). She married Archie Johnson January 1, 1948 at the Yorkville Congregational Church. Archie died November 11,1975. She remarried to Michael Obenauer August 3, 1984 at the Yorkville Congregational Church.
Barbara served as an LTA for the Yorkville Public Library and Waubonsie High School. She had always been active in the Yorkville Congregational Church, serving as Sunday School and Vacation Bible School leader. After her marriage to Michael, Bobbie stayed active in the many churches that he served. Bobbie was an active member in Church Women United. She spent several summers working with mentally challenged adults at White Memorial Camp in Council Grove, Ks. Bobbie was active in the Fox Valley Girl Scouts serving as a Troop Leader, Day Camp Director, and adult trainer. She was proud and honored to receive the Thanks Badge from the Fox Valley Girl Scout Council in 1976. Later she was involved with training adult leaders for the River Trails Girl Scout Council of Southeast Minnesota and for the Wheat Belt Council on South Central Kansas.
She is survived by her husband Michael Obenauer; her daughter, Mary (Harold) Hoover of Sheridan; her son, Matthew (Christine) Johnson of Newark; a grandson, Christopher (Amy) Hoover of Plano; great grandchildren, Emily Hoover & Daniel Hoover of Plano and a granddaughter, Wendy Hoover of Laramie, WY.
She was preceded in death by her father; her mother Bonnie (Powell) Hutter-Grenda; her step-father, Paul Hutter and a son, Michael Ross Johnson.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 10:00 a.m – noon, with a memorial service starting at noon on Saturday, May 20th at the Yorkville Congregational Church, 409 Center Parkway, Yorkville, IL, 60560. Pastor Mark Gregory and Pastor Vicki Warren will officiate. Inurnment of cremains will be at the Plattville Cemetery.
