Arthur William Heidemann of Montgomery, Illinois (previously of Palatine, IL) passed away on Monday, September 9, 2024, at the age of 87, just shy of his 88th birthday. He was the son of Henry F. Heidemann and Jessie H (Kuecker) Heidemann Trimble, and was born in Arlington Heights, IL.

Art was proud to have served in the US Navy and was a proud member of the SeaBees (Naval Construction Battalion) and served with time spent in Illinois, Georgia and Rhode Island, retiring in 1974.

After retirement Art continued his military service as a civil servant working at Glenview Naval Air Base as an arresting gear mechanic until it was closed, at which time he transferred to Great Lakes Naval Air Base until the time of his 2nd retirement. He was a certified elevator and crane operator.

Art was also very involved with VFW Post 981, where both he (1979) and his brother John were post commanders among other duties. Growing up his kids could be found helping out at Friday fish fry nights or cleaning up on Sunday mornings after an event the night before.

Along the way he met and married the love of his life, Dolores (Niles) Heidemann. They were married for 66 years before Dee passed this last April. Together they built a beautiful family, and shared a rich life filled with adventure and memories. Art enjoyed traveling this beautiful country, camping, fishing, telling jokes (some not so clean), and was an avid Bears and Cubs fan.

Art is survived by his children Arthur (Cindy) Heidemann, Dawn (Alex) Izzo, Debbie (Kirk) Tjernagel, and grandchildren Rebecca Engels, Kaitlyn Tjernagel, and Cody Tjernagel.

Art and Dee will both be laid to rest together at Memorial Gardens in Arlington Heights, Illinois.
