Arnold "Gene" E. Ellis, age 89 of Oswego, IL, formerly of Amboy, IL passed away on Friday, July 6, 2018 at Seasons Hospice Naperville, IL. He was born May 18, 1929 in Mendon, IL, the son of Walter A. and Florence E. nee Anderson Ellis. Gene is a graduate of Amboy High School where he played varsity baseball, football and track. On June 12, 1951 he married the love of his life Donna nee Shaw Anderson. Gene loved sports so much he coached baseball in Glendale Heights, and could be seen golfing until the age of 85. He is survived by his daughter Barbara (Scott) Anderson; son Steven (Marielee) Ellis; seven grandchildren, Brett, Bryan, Drew, Garrett Anderson and Kyle, Erik, and Reid Ellis; along with seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Donna, two sons David and Jeffrey Ellis, and brother Ronald Ellis. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 9, 2018 from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM. Funeral Service will follow immediately at 6:00PM at DUNN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME WITH CREMATORY, 1801 S. Douglas Rd Oswego, IL 60543. A private burial will be held at a later date.
