Andrew Lawrence Cowen, loving son, brother and friend passed away on May 6, 2021 at the age of 27. Drew was born on March 2, 1994 in Lawrenceville, Georgia. In 2015, he graduated from the automotive technology program at Universal Technical Institute. Drew had an affinity for the outdoors and would have slept outside underneath the stars every night if he could have. He had many talents and could even start a fire with just a wooden bow and a piece of string. He enjoyed fixing up cars and taking care of his exotic fish tank. Drew had a heart of gold and gave the best bear hugs. He loved swimming, fishing, and being on the water. He had a special ability of making those around him feel welcome and at ease and was a good friend to all that knew him. Drew will be truly and deeply missed. Drew joins his grandfather Theodore Cowen Jr., his aunt Lynn Cowen, and his uncle Larry Cowen in heaven. Drew is survived by his mother, Ann (Bill) Kinney of Oswego, IL, his father, Martin (Traci) Cowen of Aurora, IL, his older sister, Becca (Dave) Szymkowiak of Portland, OR, his younger brother, Matt Cowen of Oswego, IL, his grandparents Gary and Marlene Winkie of Rockford, IL, his grandmother Laurie Cowen of Belvidere, IL, his aunt Julie (Bill) Crist, his uncle Doug Winkie, his uncle Ted Cowen, his aunt Marsha (Roger) Hosfeld, his uncle Peter (Christine) Cowen, his uncle Tony (Julie) Cowen and many loved cousins. A private visitation and celebration of life will be held for family and close friends at Dunn Family Funeral Home with Crematory in Oswego, IL from 1:00 - 3:00 pm., Sunday, May 16, 2021.
