Allan Arthur Wendling, 96, of Yorkville, IL, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at Cedarhurst of Yorkville, IL. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Betty (Hartman) Wendling of 67 years, parents Arthur and Elva (Rink) Wendling, brother Richard Wendling and sisters Marjorie Wendling, Grace McKirgan, Kathleen Baliman, Darlene Everett, and Carol LaGow. He is survived by loving children Larry Wendling (Ann) and Gary Wendling (Penelope), grandchildren Lisa Wendling, Sara Sondermann, Matthew Wendling (Kirsten) and Laura Yoo, sister Charlotte Flagg, brother David Wendling (Linda) and many nieces and nephews. He was born on January 11, 1924 in Yorkville, IL. He graduated from Yorkville High School in 1941. He was a veteran of WW II, having served in the US Army infantry in the Pacific Theater. He participated in three major battles at Makin, Saipan and Okinawa and was awarded the purple heart with oak leaf clusters. Upon returning from the war, he began a 44-year career with All Steel Equipment where he retired as a foreman. He enjoyed bowling his entire life until the age of 90. He was the ultimate "do-it-yourselfer" and could build or fix anything, including auto repair, woodworking, construction, farming, and gardening. He lived a full and productive life, and died as he had lived, with integrity, honesty, and courage. He will be greatly missed, There will be a private graveside service along with military honors at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery in Oswego, IL. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to the Salvation Army, 550 Redwood Drive, Aurora, IL 60506.
