Alexander "Alex" Schmalz, age 92, of North Aurora, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at AccentCare Inpatient Hospice Center in Naperville, IL.

He was born January 1, 1931, the son of the late Xaver Schmalz and Barbara (Krieger) Schmalz.

He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Aurora, IL. Alex met the love of his life, Alma Schmalz, and was joined in matrimony on December 28, 1957.

Alex is survived by his three children, Irene (Joe) Pappa of Oswego, IL, Debbie (Jeff) Heiser of Byron, IL, and Frank (Barb) Schmalz of Serena, IL.; seven grandchildren, Dustin (Jessica) Heiser, John (Angie) Heiser, Thomas and Erika (Fiancé Brandon Ferrell) Pappa, Daniel, Jacob and Adam Schmalz; great-grandchildren Hailey Heiser, Aurora and Jenna Heiser, brothers-in-laws, sisters-in-laws and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Alma Schmalz (Jan. 25, 2019), sister Emilie Gerhardt, brother Adam Schmalz, 5 brother-in-laws and 2 sister-in-laws.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 17, 2023 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at DUNN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME with CREMATORY, 1801 S. Douglas Road, Oswego, IL 60543.

Additional visitation will be on Saturday, November 18, 2023 from 9:00 AM until a funeral service at 10:00 AM at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 63 Fernwood Road, Montgomery, IL 60538.

He will be laid to rest next to his wife at Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery in Aurora, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Emmanual Lutheran Church, 550 4th Avenue, Aurora, IL 60505 or St. Luke's Lutheran Church.
