It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that the family of Aidan James Schmidt announces his unexpected passing on July 7, 2026, at the age of 22. Aidan was born on July 29, 2003, in Aurora, Illinois, to Jeff Schmidt and Aileen nee Henaughan Schmidt. His untimely departure has left a void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Aidan was a young man with an old soul, kind heart, and brought laughter and smiles to every room he entered. He was a passionate music enthusiast, with a particular love for alternative rock, indie, and underground bands. His collection of vinyl records was a testament to his deep appreciation for the art, and he often attended concerts to immerse himself in the live experience, sometimes even on his own. In Aidan's pastime he enjoyed playing acoustic and electric guitars.
A graduate of Oswego East High School in 2021, Aidan was embarking on the journey of his promising career as an electrician. He was starting his fourth year of apprenticeship with The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 701, working with Meade Electric Company. Aidan was known for his work ethic and determination, and was a highly valued part of their team.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Aidan cherished the simple joys of life. He loved gaming, camping, and was an avid supporter of the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs. He had a large group of friends, drawn to his welcoming nature and infectious enthusiasm. Aidan cared deeply for all of his family and friends and that love was evident in the kindness, generosity, and compassion he showed everywhere he went.
Aidan's loving family, who will forever hold him in their hearts, includes his parents Jeff and Aileen Schmidt; his siblings Ryan Joseph, Kylie Ann, and Molly Grace Schmidt; his paternal grandmother Bridget Schmidt; aunts Karen (Steve) Cappitelli, Kathy (Vic) Fanelli, Kim (Steve) Ramos, Nancy Schmidt; uncles Ray (Meg) Henaughan, Jim Henaughan, Ken Schmidt, and Keith (Saundra) Schmidt; numerous cousins; and his beloved family dogs, Millie and George.
He is predeceased by his great-grandparents Kay and William Block, paternal grandfather Paul Schmidt, maternal grandparents James and Wilma Henaughan, uncle Paul Schmidt, aunt Karen Schmidt, and his family dog Sully. Aidan's legacy of love, friendship, and passion will forever live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 12, 2026 from 12:00 PM (Noon) until 5:00 PM at DUNN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME with CREMATORY, 1801 S. Douglas Road, Oswego, IL 60543.
