Opal Mae Johnson, 1937-2020
Opal Mae Johnson (Falbe), 82, of Carlyle, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at Symphony at the Tillers in Oswego, Illinois.
Opal was born to the late Robert and Violet (Brown) Falbe, June 29, 1937, in Carlyle, Illinois. She was a 1955 graduate of Carlyle High School and a member of Lynwood Baptist Church (now Crosspointe) in Oswego.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Charles R. Johnson; former husband Earl Kinder Sr.; two sons, Michael S. Kinder and William N. Kinder; and sisters, Jane Roberg, Juanita Griffin, Luretta Orrell, and Sandra Powell.
Opal is survived by one sister, Patricia Krieger; three brothers, Robert Falbe, Jr. and wife Lynn; James Falbe and wife Kathy; and Richard Falbe and wife Angie.
She is survived by her children, Ellis R. Kinder of Midway Park, NC, Earl S. Kinder, Jr. of Florida, Carla Eiland (Johnson) of Bolingbrook, IL, Charles N. and Paula (Kelley) Johnson of Oak Park, CA, and Orson K. Johnson of House Springs, MO.
She is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren, including William N. Kinder, Jr., Dayona Reed, Samantha (Kinder) Peterson, Kamron Kinder, Eli C. and Cristina (Evangelista) Shorkey, Beau Gene Shorkey, Anthony K. Johnson, Teah N. Johnson, Leila J. Johnson, Savannah Shorkey, Garrett Shorkey, and Madelyn Peterson.
Opal loved her family and was known for sending birthday cards to her numerous nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. She was a long-time Chicago Cubs baseball fan who loved her family deeply. Her chocolate chip cookies were magical and her gentle touch with songbirds, houseplants, roses, and sunflowers, her favorite flower, was unique. Opal loved a great Agatha Christie murder mystery, Disney movies, 1,000-piece puzzles, and beating all challengers at dominos.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, April 25, 2020 at Dunn Family Funeral Home, 1801 Douglas Road, Oswego, IL 60543. Opal's nephew, Pastor David Johnson of Somonauk Baptist Church, will preside.
A celebration of Opal's life will be scheduled in July when COVID-19 travel and gathering restrictions are lifted.
Donations in Opal's name can be made to the Alzheimer's Association (alz.org) and the American Cancer Society (cancer.org) to fund important research benefitting millions of people and their families.
