Obituary for Frederick Morgan Mitchell IV

Frederick Morgan Mitchell IV, age 81 of Oswego, IL died Friday, January 8, 2021 at his residence with his loving family at his side. He was born March 8, 1939 in Detroit, MI the son of the late Frederick Morgan and Agnes Cecil (nee Reid) Mitchell III.

Fred attended Eastern Michigan University, the University of Michigan, and earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Detroit Institute of Technology. He was a chemist employed by various companies notably Monsanto, Merck, and Novartis prior to his retirement. He was also employed as a health inspector for Kendall County. He and his wife have been antiques dealers for over 45 years, maintaining a booth at The Olde Timers Antiques Centre Sandwich, IL and partners in managing Sundays at Sandwich Antiques Market. He was active within the various communities he lived: Rotary Club, City Planning Commission, councilman and mayor pro tem, 1st Texas Infantry Regiment, Rockwood, MI; Oswego Heritage Association, Friends of the Oswego Library, Gleaners, 10th Illinois Volunteer Infantry Regiment, Chicago Suburban Antiques Dealers Association, Northern Illinois Antiques Dealers Association, Columbia Yacht Club Chicago, IL. He was a board member of the Casa Bella Condo Association Fort Myers, FL. He was an international traveler, music lover, avid boater/sailor, reader and book collector.

He is survived by his wife Lurena Dorothy “Renie” (nee Levitte), daughter Jennifer (Phil) Curtis, son Fred (Cathy Hubbard) Mitchell V, granddaughter Laura (Michael) Kraynak, two great grandchildren Addison and Evelyn Kraynak, two sisters Sandra Mitchell, Cynthia Brien, nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
